Karin van Spaendonck-Zwarts
Karin van Spaendonck-Zwarts is a Clinical Geneticist with special interest in Cardiogenetics. She recently started as Consultant Clinical Geneticist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Australia.
She received both her MSc in Biomedical Sciences and her MSc in Medicine from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Her PhD thesis on Inherited Cardiomyopathies and gene-environment interactions was awarded by the Dutch Society of Cardiology.
She trained in Clinical Genetics in the Netherlands, and worked as a registered Clinical Geneticist in Groningen and Amsterdam from 2008-2017. Her research focuses on the genetic and environmental effects in cardiomyopathy development, in particular dilated cardiomyopathy. In 2015 van Spaendonck received the Ben ter Haar Prize of the Dutch Society of Clinical Genetics for her contribution to clinical (cardio)genetics research.
